    Behaviour and Design of Steel Structures

    The behaviour and design of trusses, frames, members and connections in steel building and bridge structures. Ultimate strength, stability, and postbuckling are emphasized in topical examples including plate girders, composite steel/concrete girders, second-order frame behaviour, high-strength bolted and welded framing connections. Special topics including concrete filling, fire protection and plastic analysis of hollow structural section connections are also covered. Canadian design standards and the Limit States Design concepts are used. * Indicates a 3-hour laboratory taken by students on alternate weeks.
